Who cleans up the Internet?
In a perfect world when a listing is expired or sold everyone who had that listing on the internet would update it or remove it as necessary but here in the real world we are all too busy taking care of current business to remember sweeping up after ourselves. It would be nice if there was a group of people dedicated to cleaning up old, outdated and erroneous information out here on the information highway. I have had calls from clients who have found my listings at several different prices online. Some where expired listings on other websites, some were well intending fellow agents who just didn't update price changes and some were just search engine cached pages that I don't even know how to remove. I think we should all take a few minutes and look over our sites and try and do our part to eliminating the outdated and incorrect listings. It isn't the answer but it is at least a step in the right direction and who knows it may start a new trend where we are all more responsible for the info we have out there. We are all in this together so let's work together to clean up our mess.

You are correct. Too few of us update and/or remove old listings. I receive calls from people that have searched the national big name sites and desire information on real estate that changed hands years ago. I remind them they are able to search directly from the MLS services from my website and send them the page link; http://www.rakoci.com/searchmls.html . From there they are able to search more than one coastal county in both North Carolina and South Carolina.

Ah Randy, we all need an internet "cleaner" & "updater" - and I have been guilty on more than one occasion by not keeping all my sites updated daily -
Even if one is to try and remove old info it is pretty impossible to do as once things go into syndication they end up on sites where there are no staffs and no one to handle such things-- once its there its pretty much there forever.
I agree Bob. Makes you wonder if there are any limitations to the web itself storage wise. Think of all the useless bits floating around out there somwhere and each one could be accessed at any time and believed accurate. Guess all we can do is try.
Too many sites that an agent can put a listing in, does not require expiration date and this site downloads information to many other sites. As Bob/Carolin stated, it is hard to remove.
