Every year when the Fourth rolls around I am both excited and scared to death. Excited knowing that we will soon be sitting under amazing firework displays and scared because I know somewhere out there someone is think alcohol and fireworks play nice together. Every year someones Holiday memories is of an Emergency room after an accident. The memories of a Holiday without mishap are so much better. Here are a few tips to make this years Independence Day a good but safe one.

- Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. You use a designated driver why not use a designated shooter?
- Never use home made fireworks. There is more to making safe fireworks than meets the eye.
- Keep the fireworks outdoors. Sounds like a no brainer but a few no brainers have burned their home down without thinking.
- Always...ALWAYS have a water supply or fire extinguisher handy BEFORE you begin.
- Keep kids back fro the area. Nothing ends fun like a child being burned.
- Leave the duds alone. If they didn't go the first time let them lay or douse them in water.
- Most of all...USE COMMON SENSE! Most accidents are avoidable with a little thinking BEFORE we do things.
I know the temptation of using illegal fireworks is there but the consequences outweigh the enjoyment. Check your local Chamber of Commerce website and you will find plenty of Firework displays that are safe. Enjoy the Holiday but be safe so this year there are nothing but good memories.
