Big Rapids Riverwalk
Next time you are in the Big Rapids area you owe it to yourself to check out our Riverwalk. In all there are 3.64 miles of Riverwalk to enjoy. Our Riverwalk connects 4 parks: the White Pine Trail State Park , Northend Riverside Park , Swede Hill Park and Hemlock Park and each is well worth the time invested to check them out. The entire project, which was community led, raised over $1,000,000 and included financial support from the Great Lakes Fisheries Trust Fund, The Michigan DNR Trust Fund and the City of Big Rapids along with support of over $250,000 from the citizens of our community.
Starting at Maple Street and traveling through Hemlock Park where you will find tennis courts, a pavilion for picnics, softball field and PlayScape for the kids. From there you enjoy the 250 foot wooden bridge that spans the Muskegon River. and over to Baldwin St where you will find Swede Hill Park. From the you can continue to Northend Riverside Park where you will find many amenities like horseshoe pits, volleyball courts, 2 pavilions and a fishing area. Along the Riverwalk there are several spots with fishing piers and benches to rest. The Muskegon River offers many recreational opportunities! For those who love canoeing, tubing, fishing or just enjoy the splendor of getting back to nature, this is definitely the place for you. Along the Riverwalk you will run into several types of people enjoying it. There are joggers, hikers, bicycles, roller blader's and even cross country skiers in the winter. Riverwalk also offers several connections to the White Pine Trail, part of Michigan “Rails to Trails” system that runs from Comstock Park to Cadillac.
