Artworks in Downtown Big Rapids
Next stop in sharing of the businesses in Big Rapids, MI should be ArtWorks which is so popular that even just putting artworks into Google even they have them number One. My wife and I have been followers of ArtWorks for a while now and they just keep finding new ways to impress us. Whenever you get feeling like you know everything there is to know about an area you learn something new. ArtWorks is one of those places. The local talent we have here in Big Rapids will amaze you as you walk through the gallery. When we attended the Grand Re-Opening we knew they were on to something when all three floors were filled with people enjoying the art. There is a dance studio in the lower level that was teaching ball room dancing when we stopped by. Who knew right here in Big Rapids and yes, embarrassed as I am, ACROSS the street from my office. The third floor had a pottery wheel and a very talented lady spinning a vase. We watched what seemed easy for her as she spun her craft. The Artworks Gallery mission is 3-fold.
- to provide a place for artists to exhibit and sell their work
- to provide a place for education and performance of the arts
- to provide a community center for the arts and cultural activities
The gallery houses an ongoing Gift Shop of two dimensional work, jewelry and original items crafted and created by local artists and artisans. In addition, the gallery is constantly being energized by exhibits of wide-ranging displays, creating and stimulating interest in the Big Rapids community. Poems, short stories and other writings are welcome for inclusion in most of our exhibits.This truly is a place that needs to be experienced and afterwards maybe a stroll down to the Old Pioneer Emporium or across the street for a bite to eat at the Blue Cow Cafe or Schubergs.
