Addressing Addresses in Mecosta County
Quite often I hear someone looking for an address by street number here in Mecosta County. I have used a system that works in most Counties as soon as you "learn" their patterns. Here in Mecosta our County is 24 miles square. Roads are numbered starting in the South and going North by Miles (One Mile, Two Mile, etc through 23 Mile) and from the East county line going West by 10's (10th Ave, 20th Ave, Etc, through 230th Ave). We will start with the South to North and show you how to know approx where the house is. In Mecosta the addresses start at the South and East county lines and raise by 1000 each mile you go. So between the South County Line and One mile the addresses go from 1-999, From One Mile to Two Mile they are 1000-1999 and so on all the way to 23,999 at the North county line. This equals about 100 per tenth of a mile so 500 would be half a mile and 750 would be 3/4 of a mile. Sounds way harder than it is. Say we are looking for the address of 18500 Northland Dr, that tells me it is half a mile North of the corner of 18 Mile and Northland Dr. In Mecosta, all even numbers are on East and odd numbers are on the West so to be precise the address 18500 Northland Dr would be on the East side of Northland Dr between 18 Mile and Northland. For another example we are looking for 13777 220th Ave. We know it would be about 3/4 miles North of the corner of 13 Mile and 220th one the West Side of the road.
East/ West works the same way starting at the East county line and going West 1-999 to 10th Ave, 1000-1,999 from 10th Ave to 20th Ave all the way to 23,999 at the West county line. This works no matter what East/West road you happen to be on. Keep in mind the South side are odd numbers in Mecosta. Say we are looking for 21395 19 Mile. We know it would be about 4 tenths of a mile West of 210th or if there is no 210th crossing 19 Mile Rd it would be 6 tenths East of 220th Ave. This has worked for me for years and it will work for you. Once you have it learned it will surprise you how easy it is to find a house without using a map. KEEP IN MIND there are exceptions to every rule but this system is very accurate.
Other Counties use similar systems but you need to know where they start and stop. Just because you are between 13 Mile and 14 Mile they may have started differently. Some Counties split into quarters and the East/West will be split into halves thus adding the E or W to the address but once you learn their pattern you should be good to go. Hope this helps and drive safely.
