By now most everyone has heard about the importance of FaceBook. Huge amounts of people waiting to rush your business as soon as you plague them with unwanted advertisements. While the huge amounts of people are true, most FaceBookers I have talked with do not welcome businesses filling their pages with ads. They feel it is a slap in the FaceBook for businesses to try and take over their SOCIAL networking. Daily we are all asked to "like" area businesses which open the door for the business to send you alerts about upcoming bargains but if you like 20 businesses what do you suppose your NEW FaceBook looks like?
It is like Craig's List. When I first started listing homes on Craig's list it was great, we would average 10-20 calls every time a listing was put uploaded, but then someone decided to teach agents how to blast their listings and manipulate the system and now you are front page on Craig's List long enough to finish typing your listing and by the time it hits you are page two or three. Everyone is looking for that replacement for hard work by hitting the easy button.
I am a huge FaceBook fan. I keep up on my family and friends I haven't seen for years and worry that greed and the need to take over will ruin it for all the people who are really enjoying SOCIAL networking. I have used the "delete" button on half a dozen "friends" already this week letting them know I was in it for the Social value and not the commercial ads they were pushing on me. These were people that asked to be my "Friend" not client or customer and never have said a word to me other than their self serving ads and daily invites to events to....make them money. So, before you rush to join the Social Networking frenzy keep in mind it may have as much as negative impact on your business as a positive one. I am always looking for friends to conversation, chat, sharing thoughts and ideas. Best of luck in all you do.
